Cloud covered sky

Leached of all colour

Light drizzling rain

Washes across the landscape

Moist, glossy green leaves

Bright with new life

Earths damp, fecund smells

Permeate the air

January 10

Wispy, white cloud filaments,

drifting, merging, changing –

across a brilliant blue sky

Green, rust and amber speckled

eucalyptus leaves,

blowing gently in the breeze

The low grating, burr of

sawing and slicing stops,

as another tree

falls

to the ground

January 6

Swirls of mist

drift across the landscape

Blurring the edges

of darkened pine silhouettes.

Light drizzling rain

revitalises and renews –

every leaf and flower

After days….

of scorching heat

Explosions of light

Illuminate –

the shadowy evening sky

Loud, sonorous booms,

pound in my ears

A kookaburra laughs

heralding rain

January 4

Tired and worn.

Traipsing down

overgrown pathways

Seeking hidden rainforest pockets

Opening the carrier

returning runaway ringtail possum

to his natural bushland habitat

Hoping that he can survive

as his natural habitat is

invaded and encroached upon

By man’s industrial world.

January 3

Intricately woven mandala,

 fine silken threads

Shimmers and pulsates

in the morning light

At centre sits,

in cross formation

its brown and yellow-striped

spinner….

Small, brown frightened eyes

open wide,

Dark grey fur,

claws ready

Lying, belly exposed,

amidst the rubbish.

Lifted, firmly but gently

from his unclimbable plastic hold

Into safe, warm, loving hands

January 1

Seeking night’s quiet touch

in the cool fresh evening air,

Summer’s fragrance lingering

Cicadas hum.

a soothing rhythm

The sound of distant cars

interrupts my reverie.

Spring #7

first star of the evening,
shimmers brightly –
darkness lifts for a moment,
as the luminous full moon
slips through
smoky, grey swirls of cloud

Spring #6

sunset colours,

play upon the wavering lake

shimmering patterns of light

orange, pink and gold
